The “Visiting Husky” ethnic program (4 hours)

We invite you to the 4-hour program “Visiting Husky” in the “Snow Dogs” sled dogs kennel, which is located in the community of indigenous peoples of Kamchatka “Children of the North”. Here you will plunge into the mysterious life of indigenous people of Kamchatka, get acquainted with their traditions and customs, meet the inhabitants of the kennel: sled dogs of different breeds and reindeer!

Travel period: December – May.

What is the «Snow Dogs» kennel famous for?

The «Snow Dogs» kennel is the oldest and the largest kennel of northern sled dogs in the Kamchatka region. It belongs to the multiple winners and prize-winners of the race “Beringia” – the longest extreme dogsled race in Russia – Andrey and Anastasia Semashkin. Andrei and Anastasia, together with their seven children, are engaged in traditional economic activities. More than a hundred dogs, some deer and horses live on the kennel. The kennel is located in one of the most picturesque places in the region. The kennel locates not far from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, but its area is surrounded by forest, which allows you to feel completely isolated from the modern world. From the territory of the kennel, there is a stunning view of the home volcanoes – Koryaksky, Avachinsky and Kozelsky.

The kennel has several directions of activity, one of which is sledding. Members of Kamchatka’s and Russian national sledding teams train on the basis of the “Snow Dogs”. Here coaching work with sportsmen is carried out, and preparation of dogs not only for participation in competitions but also for long expeditionary routes. Another main activity of the kennel is tourism, including extreme tourism.

The “Snow Dogs” kennel is an amazing place where everyone can get invaluable experience of northern life and learn the history of sledding sport in Kamchatka.

10:00 Arrival at the kennel.

Meeting with a guide.

Excursion around the kennel, meeting with fluffy puppies, Husky, Samoyed and deer. The guide will tell you about the history of Kamchatka sledding sport, dogs and the history of the kennel.

Native show. You will touch a way of life native peoples of Kamchatka (Koryaks, Itelmens, Evens), their culture, try some tools that they use in an everyday life, see traditional dances and songs.

Sledding race*. Safety briefing, familiarization with the route. Sledding race accompanied by a snowmobile.

Upon returning to the kennel, you will have a delicious lunch wild deer shurpah (a vegetable soup with deer meat) and delicious tea.

Exhibition of national souvenirs, photosession in national clothes.

14:00 Departure from the kennel.

14:15 Transfer back to the place of meeting.

*Please take a note that in middle and late spring (April-May) the sledding may not be held due to the condition of the track.

The route or the route schedule can be changed according to the weather conditions, the training level of the group, other external factors. The decision to change the route may be taken by the guide on the place.
